A Kaufman County Precinct 4 Deputy Constable was hospitalized after an accident in which his cruiser rolled over four times on westbound Highway 175, according to authorities. DPS spokesman Kyle Bradford said, the deputy was “in stable condition and conscious” before being care-flighted to Parkland Hospital in Dallas.
Bradford said that the deputy was attempting to stop a speeding motorist moments before the accident. The officer initiated the pursuit, turned on his lights and sirens, and was nearing the motorist when his back left tire blew out. The blown tire caused the vehicle to swerve underneath itself and it then rolled approximately four times, said Bradford.
The accident occurred at approximately 6:21 p.m. on Monday afternoon, May 13, 2013, on Highway 175 between Kaufman and Kemp. The deputy constable's name has not been released at this time.
Authorities are unsure if the speeding motorist the deputy constable was in pursuit of is aware of the accident. The officer did not obtain a vehicle license plate or description.
