Forney, Texas – One of the three seats contested in the City Council election was lost on just two votes – a true testament to the statement “every vote counts.” Candidate Scott Regan defeated Mayor Pro-Tem James Hatley for Place 4 on the Forney City Council, 560 votes to 558 votes.
“It’s been a tough campaign, but I’m grateful and humbled that the people of Forney have put their faith in me to serve our great city. They recognize that the time has come to stop the good-old-boy deals, the tax hikes and the irresponsible spending and get back to the basics for our future. I’m looking forward to getting to work and standing up for our families. God bless.” stated Regan on Sunday afternoon.
Hatley said, because of the narrow margin of the results, he could possibly seek a recount of the ballots by the county. He is now waiting until Monday morning to speak with county officials to weigh his options. “Either way,” says Hatley, “I thank everyone who supported me and hope the whole of Forney will come together in support of the Mayor, council, and staff. There are great opportunities and possibilities ahead for Forney and we need to join together to help them happen.”
The ballots have not been certified and will be canvassed on Thursday, May 16, 2013.
