FORNEY, Texas – Three North Forney High School (NFHS) theater students gained valuable experience recently as extras in My All American which is proposed to hit theaters in 2015, says their instructor NFHS Theater Director Jessica Kent, who also had a role as an extra.

The film is based on University of Texas football star Freddie Steinmark and his relationship with his coach, Darrell K. Royal, during their successful 1969 run at the national championship. Steinmark was diagnosed with bone cancer that season which resulted in the amputation of his left leg.
Aaron Eckhart, who played as Harvey Dent in The Dark Knight (2008), will play as legendary coach Darrell Royal for the film. The role of Steinmark will be played by Finn Wittrock.
Filming took place at the Cotton Bowl and at Texas Christian University's Amon G. Carter Stadium between June 16 and 19. NFHS senior Robert Taylor played as a student on the first day of their filming and was joined by Kent, senior Rebecca Walters, and freshman Caden Kent as extras at both stadiums acting as football game fans for the remainder of their filming days.
Filming on June 16 and 17 was a reenactment of the January 1, 1970 Cotton Bowl Classic between UT and Notre Dame which was played in an estimated temperature of 38 degrees. The day of filming however peaked at 95 degrees, according to Kent, who said they played their roles by wearing sweaters and coats which made for a long and very hot day.
“My students had a great time filming,” Jessica Kent told inForney.com. “They talked nonstop about how much they learned from watching Aaron Eckhart and the crew work. It was nice to hear them finally understanding what it is I’m trying to teach them and why.”
In addition to the experience they gained, the extras were paid – but it wasn't easy money. After a long day filming in the sun, one student said, “Wow, I thought we were overpaid at first. Now I’m beginning to think we’re earning every penny!”
“He was right,” said Kent. They worked 12 to 16 hours a day filming. “We loved every minute of it! Even when we were drenched in sweat and falling asleep on our tables during our breaks.”
