The parade will begin at 9 a.m. and awards will be given for best decorated float, bicycle, wagon/stroller, golf cart, off-road vehicle, kiddie car, and antique car. Awards will also be given for best costume, most patriotic pet, and, of course, the mayor's award.

Staging for the parade will begin at 8 a.m. with judging and awards presented at 8:30 a.m. at Amy Parks-Heath Elementary School at 330 Laurence Drive.

The City of Heath invites veterans from any branch of the U.S. Military to ride in the parade on the Veterans Float.

“We have this float so that our community can honor our veterans for their extraordinary gift of service,” said Heath Mayor Lorne Liechty. “It is because of them and the many other brave men and women who have served in our Armed Forces that we are able to celebrate independence.”

Veterans and active members of the military wishing to participate in the parade can contact Kim Dobbs at (972) 771-6228 for more information or visit www.heathtx.com.

City officials would like to remind everyone to expect traffic delays in the area during the parade along Laurence Drive from Farm-to-Market (FM) 740 to FM 1140 from approximately 9:15 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. The use of fireworks is strictly prohibited within the city limits of Heath.

City of Heath offices will be closed in observance of the holiday on Friday, July 4, 2014, and resume normal business hours on Monday, July 7.
