The district previously announced Forney ISD Deputy Superintendent Suzanne McWilliams as the lone finalist for the superintendent position on Monday, June 2, 2014, after Superintendent Michael Holland announced plans to accept the Executive Director position with the Region VI Education Service Center in Huntsville, Texas.
The board unanimously approved the action approving McWilliams following a required 21-day wait period after a lone finalist is announced, according to Forney ISD Communications Director Larry Coker.
In addition to the announcement of the superintendent's approval, the Forney ISD Board of Trustees also approved the hiring of Dr. Justin Terry as the district’s new Assistant Superintendent of Accountability and Learning – filling McWilliams' former position with the district.
Terry previously served as the Director of Academic and Career Connections with Wylie ISD which oversaw secondary school organization and career programming – which was also named the pilot school district for the Metroplex Technology Business Council (MTBC). The MTBC program partners with science, technology, engineering, and mathematic (STEM) businesses to expand STEM education and career awareness in public education, according to Coker.
Terry has 13 years of experience in education working in Corsicana-Mildred ISD, Little Elm ISD, and Wylie ISD. Terry holds a Texas Superintendent Certificate, a Texas Principal Certificate, a Texas Teacher’s Certification in Mathematics, an Instructional Leadership Development Certification, and a certification in the Professional Development and Appraisal System.
“It is an honor to be named the Assistant Superintendent for Accountability and Learning here with Forney ISD,” Dr. Terry stated in a press release. “I have watched Forney grow and continually improve academically and that has everything to do with the outstanding work Mrs. McWilliams has done with the District. My goal is to continue the high level of academic excellence already established in Forney ISD, and work to help each student to be successful through a focus on innovative learning opportunities and 21st century skills.”
