Lucas Janda, the Chief Financial Officer for the District, presented the proposed budget to the board at the meeting. Janda explained that this budget would allow the District to operate on a $59.9 million budget for the upcoming school year. Janda also added that the budget is based upon several key factors which include, but are not limited to, including maintaining the same tax rate, providing a three-percent pay raise to all employees, employing 22 additional educator positions to meet enrollment growth, and improving fund balance levels.
“The goal of this budget process has been to protect the integrity of the classroom and reward our loyal, hardworking staff for their dedication to Forney ISD,” said Suzanne McWilliams, newly appointed superintendent of schools. “Our teachers and our staff have made great sacrifices over the last three years. It is because of their dedication, support and efforts to help the District save money that our school board was committed to providing a pay raise for employees this year.”
Later in the agenda, the Board was quite pleased to learn that the District had earned from the State a preliminary financial rating for 2014 of “Superior Achievement” – the highest rating a school can achieve. Board President Keith Bell congratulated the full board and the District leadership team for this great accomplishment.
