Traffic will be able to travel east and west on the U.S. Highway 80 service roads over the bridge, use the Texas u-turns, and the bridge's main lanes. However, traffic will not be able to travel north or south of the bridge until the spine roads, known as Gateway Boulevard, leading to it are opened.
The north portion of Gateway Boulevard, which will connect to Farm-to-Market (FM) 548, is expected to open when the Gateway Cedar Apartments open in late summer 2014. A completion timeline on the southern portion of Gateway Boulevard, which will connect to FM 1641, was not available.
Windmill Farms residents have also regained the use of Iron Gate to access the U.S. Highway 80 north service road.
When Gateway Boulevard opens, Reeder Road from Reeder Lane to the Gateway Boulevard is also expected to reopen. The intersection of the two roads will be the home of Forney's first roundabout intersection. Reeder Road from Gateway Boulevard to County Road 217 will remain closed until it can be repaired, according to city officials.
At this time, the site developers have not released any potential retailers or restaurants for the site. “Most of the site work you see in the area is preparing it for development,” City Manager Brian Brooks told inForney.com.
