According to Union Pacific officials, an issue with a knuckle, which holds the train cars together, caused the initial delays at approximately 8 a.m. Thursday morning, July 3, 2014.
After the repairs were made and the train began to move again, 35 cars on the back-end of the train separated from the main train and continued to block the four downtown crossings. An air leak was to blame for the separation of the train cars. The 35 cars stretched from South Chestnut Street to North McGraw Street.
At approximately 10:20 a.m., the train cleared the intersections. The Forney Police Department directed drivers to the Farm-to-Market 548 railroad crossing on the east side of town during the closures.
