Looper is reportedly the father of the infant, according to police. The infant suffered a severe head injury and was unresponsive when emergency responders arrived at the scene.
At 2:36 p.m., on July 7, 2014, police originally received the 911 call from the mother who blocked Looper's vehicle in the driveway after the assault to prevent him from leaving. The 911 call was disconnected before emergency responders arrived on scene.
The infant and the mother were transported to Children’s Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, by an East Texas Medical Center ambulance. Looper was arrested at the scene and charged with injury to a child, a first-degree felony.
The infant is now recovering at an area hospital in “stable condition” with bruising near its head and shoulders, according to authorities. The infant is expected to survive. A Terrell Police Department detective is at the hospital with the mother and her infant.
