Forney on list of cities not meeting water conservation efforts
FORNEY, Texas – The City of Forney is on a list of four North Texas Municipal Water District member cities not meeting 10-percent water reduction efforts, according to a chart released by the agency.

In fact, Forney is listed as the worst offender based on a percentage of the goal's cumulative usage from October 2013 to May 2014. Also included on the list of 13 member cities not meeting the reductions are McKinney, Royse City, and Wylie. Mckinney is listed as the worst offender based on total volume compared to the goal.

The City of Forney's usage calculates all City of Forney retail customers and wholesale customers which includes Markout Water Supply, Talty Water Supply, High Point Water, and Windmill Farms.

The NTMWD requested the 10 percent reduction to conserve much-needed water during the current extended drought conditions. With threats of Stage 4 water restrictions, the NTMWD recently requested an additional 10 percent reduction, for a total of 20 percent.

The reduction shortfalls in Forney are partially attributed to residential and commercial growth, according to City Manager Brian Brooks. “Because we're in a fast growing period right now, not only are we having to reduce by the 10 percent from last year, but we are having to do that while absorbing new customers as well,” he said.

The NTMWD also requested all water customers with automatic irrigation systems to switch them off and operate them in manual mode. Most automatic settings are scheduled to water once per week but current restrictions limit watering to once every two weeks.

Recently, the city has taken measures to notify the public of the current water restrictions by mailing watering schedules, placing door hangers, and making notifications on the city's Facebook Page.

City officials will begin ticketing water restriction violators after a first warning has been issued.

The City of Richardson produced a water conservation video, see below:
