CRANDALL, Texas – A Scurry man was killed and another person was injured in a single-vehicle rollover accident on Saturday night, July 12, 2014.

The accident occurred at approximately 7:33 p.m. on the westbound U.S. Hwy 175 onramp at Farm-to-Market (FM) 741 in Crandall, Texas. Westbound U.S. Hwy 175 at FM 741 was closed following the accident to allow an Air Evac Lifeteam medical helicopter to land on the highway.
According to Crandall Police Department Lieutenant Shane Meeks, 23-year-old Zackery McFarland of Scurry, Texas, and a female were traveling in a green Jeep Cherokee westbound onto U.S. Hwy 175 when the vehicle struck a culvert and rolled several times – coming to a rest on its side in the grass.
McFarland was ejected from the vehicle at the time of the accident, according to Meeks. McFarland was being transported to Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas, but died en route. The female occupant of the vehicle was transported by an East Texas Medical Center ambulance to Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, but was released without being admitted.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation by the Crandall Police Department, according to Meeks.
