FORNEY, Texas – The first 100-degree day of the year was recorded in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex on Sunday, July 13, 2014, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Fort Worth, Texas.

The temperature was recorded at 3:54 p.m. at DFW airport on Sunday afternoon. Last year, the first 100-degree day was recorded on June 27, 2013. Yesterday's 100-degree mark was the latest in the season a 100-degree day was recorded since 2007, according to the NWS.
The average 100-degree day mark in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex falls on June 30th. The earliest 100-degree day recorded in a year was on March 9, 1911, and the latest was on October 3, 1951.
According to the NWS, there have been two years since they began recording temperature data the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex has not recorded a 100-degree day – 1906 and 1973.
The greatest number of 100-degree days recorded in a year was in 2011 with 71 days over the 100-degree mark.
