Forney: Sales tax collection on rise, new monthly allocation record
FORNEY, Texas – The City of Forney is seeing a growing trend when it comes to local sales tax allocations, according to data collected by the Texas Comptroller's Office.

The first seven months of the year report gains over the same time last year by between 5 and 25 percent or more each month. The January 2014 sales tax figures represent monthly sales tax collected in November 2013, counted in December 2013, and allocated in January 2014.

The City of Forney also saw its largest sales tax allocation from the Texas Comptroller's Office in May which was $536,316.01. The May allocation was a 25.15 percent increase over the same time last year which saw an allocation of $428,534.91 – a difference of $107,781.10. This new record allocation replaces a February 2014 record, $493,141.18, which was the first allocation record since February 2013, $437,411.96.

The January allocation saw the slightest increase, 5.03 percent, over the same time last year from $356,274.17 to $374,209. February increased 12.74 percent to $493,141.18; March increased 7.91 percent to $354,295.14; April increased 10.56 percent to $435,774.54; June increased 7.81 percent to $384,701.88; and July saw an increase of 15.67 percent to $386,313.57.

Year-to-date, sales tax allocations have risen 12.98 percent from January through July over the same time last year – an increase of $340,559.49 collected.
