Heath Public Safety Department Director Terry Garret made the announcement the City of Heath's Tuesday night council meeting. The City of Heath will improve to a Class 2 ISO rating from a Class 5 ISO rating – the change is expected to go into effect in October 2014.
City officials tout an improved water system with the addition of a new northern water tower and upgraded delivery infrastructure which contributed to the new rating. “Our firefighting capabilities and access to reputable water sources for firefighting also contributed to an improved rating,” noted Chief Garrett.
The ISO rating is based on the city's score on the ISO Fire Suppression Rating Schedule which grades water distribution and facilities, fire department equipment, manpower, and facilities within a city. The city was last graded in 1999 when it received its Class 5 ISO rating. Communities are rated on a scale from 1 to 10 with 1 being the best.
“The rating improvement from a five to a two could have a significant effect on insurance premiums. The amount of change could vary from company to company depending on whether or not the company uses the ISO/PPC system,” stated Susanne Brooks, a City of Heath Communications representative, in a release. “Residents and business owners should check with their individual agents about any reduction in premiums.”
