Republican precinct chairs to vote on Precinct 2 Constable for November ballot, Aug. 5
FORNEY, Texas – The Republican Party precinct chairs in Kaufman County's Precinct 2 will hold a public meeting and vote to determine the Republican candidate who will appear on the November ballot for Kaufman County Precinct 2 Constable.

The public meeting and vote are scheduled for August 5, 2014, at the Forney Sub Courthouse at 6:30 p.m.

The need for the precinct chairs to make such a vote comes only after former Constable Joe Don Law resigned from his position after being faced with felony tampering charges. The charges against Law were dropped after a plea agreement was reached with the state.

Precinct 2 Constable candidate Jason Johnson, a now-retired sergeant with the Dallas County Constable's Office, was appointed to the position by the Kaufman County Commissioners' Court on April 29, 2014, to serve until January 1, 2014, pending the outcome of the November election.

Johnson ran against Law in the 2012 Constable's election. After Law's resignation, three candidates applied for the Constable's position: Jason Johnson; Jesse Wood; and Charles Tomlison (in the order they appeared on the precinct's July 24 meeting minutes.) A fourth applicant has filed to appear before the precinct chairs, Garry Collins.

All four applicants will be interviewed by the precinct chairs tomorrow night, Tuesday, July 29, 2014.

Each applicant will speak for three minutes at the August 5 meeting prior to the precinct chairs' vote. The public will not be allowed to speak at the August 5 meeting, according to the July 24 meeting's minutes.
