TERRELL, Texas – The Black Sheep Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol will host an open house at the Terrell Municipal Airport on Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at 7 p.m.

The Civil Air Patrol is the official civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force and assists in approximately 95% of all search and rescue efforts nationwide. The Civil Air Patrol volunteers also perform homeland security and disaster relief missions.
The squadron, based out of Mesquite Metro Airport, is inviting anyone 12 years of age or older who is interested in aviation, leadership training, emergency services, communications, aerospace education, summer activities, academic scholarships, and search and rescue to attend the open house.
The Black Sheep Squadron also has a cadet program. At any given time, the Black Sheep Squadron has approximately 15 to 20 cadets who go on camping trips and perform nighttime exercises, train in survival tactics, and perform service projects.
In February 2014, the Black Sheep Squadron, in partnership with several neighboring squadrons, performed a two-week search and rescue exercise with four aircraft at the Terrell Municipal Airport.
