KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas – What began as a traffic stop in Mesquite, Texas, Tuesday night turned into a high speed police chase with a motorcyclist in to Kaufman County – reaching speeds of 120 miles per hour.

At 6:11 p.m., a Mesquite police officer attempted to stop a motorcyclist for a traffic violation near the intersection of Cartwright Road and Pioneer Road. The motorcyclist failed to yield to the officer and the Mesquite Police Department began pursuing the motorcyclist eastbound on Cartwright Road, left onto Lawson Road, and then eastbound on I-20.
Once the pursuit entered I-20, officers recorded speeds of 120 miles per hour as the suspect fled towards Kaufman County, according to Lt. Bill Bassinger with the Mesquite Police Department. The Texas Department of Public Safety was then notified of the pursuit.
At approximately 6:22 p.m., the fleeing motorcyclist exited Farm-to-Market 1641 and traveled south towards Talty, at which point, the Mesquite Police Department terminated the pursuit.
The pursuit traveled approximately 15.4 miles. According to Google Maps traffic calculations, the particular stretch of roadway traveled during the pursuit should have taken approximately 18 minutes to travel. It took the fleeing suspect 11 minutes to travel the 15.4 miles before the pursuit was terminated.
At this time, the Mesquite Police Department is working to identify the driver of the motorcycle, according to Bassinger. No arrests were made and no injuries were reported as a result of the pursuit.
