North Forney High School squads wrap up cheer camp; top awards achieved
North Forney High School recently sent its varsity, junior varsity, and freshman cheerleaders to National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) summer camps.

The North Forney High School varsity cheerleaders attended the NCA summer camp at the T Bar M Resorts in New Braunfels, Texas, on July 15 through 18. The junior varsity and freshman cheerleaders attended the NCA summer camp at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, from July 26 through 28.

The varsity squad brought home the Herkie T.E.A.M. award which is presented for top leadership, values, and teamwork. Along with the Herkie award, the varsity squad brought home the “Spirit Stick” for displaying the most sincere spirit and enthusiasm throughout the entire week of camp.

The varsity squad also brought home a National Championship Bid which will allow them to compete in the National Championship this upcoming year. Each cheerleader on the varsity squad received a Superior Ribbon for their hard work and dedication and the squad received four other ribbons for “cheer and chant.”

The junior varsity squad received the S.P.O.T. award for displaying excellent skills in spotting and stunt technique. The JV squad also received a National Championship Bid along with three other ribbons for “cheer and chant.”

Varsity Captains Caitlynn Forbes and Destiny Johns, JV Captain Ciaran Speake, and Freshman Captain Lauren Finley completed their captain’s class which taught the captains leadership and responsibility that would be used to help guide their teams. Destiny Johns was rewarded with the Leadership Award for demonstrating excellent leadership and skills and was also asked to join the NCA cheer staff upon graduation.

Destiny Johns and Caitlynn Forbes both received the All-American Team Member awards which are touted as one of the most prestigious awards in cheerleading. The award will make them eligible to participate in various NCA special events. Johns later received the Top All-American Award for scoring the highest of all the cheerleaders at the camp.

Varsity cheerleader Rachel Lindsey received the Pin It Forward Award for leadership, spirit, commitment to excellence, kindness, and motivation.

The following cheerleaders were All-American Nominees: Brook Barakat; Cheyenne Hunter; Caitlynn Forbes; Destiny Johns; Lindsey Earlywine; Taylor Bailey; Gabrielle Ventus-Johnson; Rachel Lindsey; Cassidy Chambers; Shelby Coldiron; Ciaran Speake; Katy Sanchez; Jaide Cross; Avery Brice; Hailey Knight; Aaliyah Summers; Amber Busby; Farrahmacie Safford; and Hannah Wheeler.

The cheerleaders weren't the only ones recognized during cheer camp.

Falcons Mascot Devon Reid received the Most Spirited Award, Spirit Stick Award, All-American Mascot Award, was an All-American Mascot Nominee, and received a Superior Ribbon for his Mascot evaluation.

NFHS Varsity Coach Christal Woods and JV Coach Cathy Wilcoxson both received the Coaches’ Credentialing Certificate for their knowledge and hands-on training in cheerleading through the active participation and completion of the NCA Cheer Coaches’ Credentialing Program.
