The Forney City Council approved a preliminary plat at the intersection of FM 548 and Ridgecrest Road that could pave the way for an ALDI grocery store.
The plat is for six lots for the proposed “Ridgecrest Center Addition” on the remaining 11.639 acres on the southwest corner of the FM 548 and Ridgecrest Road intersection. The corner lot is within the Hamblen Estates Planned Development.
ALDI grocery stores have recently sprung up in Mesquite, Texas, and Rockwall, Texas. ALDI is not your traditional grocery store. In order to cut costs, according to the chain's website, credit cards are not accepted and a 25 cent deposit is required to use a shopping cart – which is returned when the cart is returned. You can still use a debit card, EBT card, or cash.
ALDI also does not carry major supermarket brands. Instead, ALDI-exclusive brands are sold and, according to their website, “saves you up to 50% over national brands.” They also back all their products with a “Double Guarantee.” If you're not satisfied with a product, they will replace it and return your money.
The Forney Planning and Zoning Commission voted 4-0 to pass the measure on October 17, 2013, and the Forney City Council approved the measure unanimously at their regularly scheduled meeting on November 5, 2013.
