The list of candidates continues to grow for the March 4, 2014, Primary Elections in Kaufman County.
According to the Texas State Secretary's election information website, 18 individuals have filed for Kaufman County seats – all of which are Republicans. The filing period began November 9, 2013, and will end on December 9, 2013.
For District 2 State Senator, incumbent Bob Deuell (R) has filed and will be facing challenger Mark Thompson (R - Mesquite, TX). District 4 State Representative Lance Gooden (R - Terrell, TX) filed for his same seat where he will once again face Dr. Stuart Spitzer (R - Kaufman, TX). Spitzer has confirmed his candidacy with inForney.com but has not officially filed according to state records.
At the county level, Kaufman County District Attorney Erleigh Norville Wiley (R - Kaufman, TX) has filed for election to remain the district attorney after being appointed by Texas Governor Rick Perry following the murder of District Attorney Mike McLelland. Prior to her appointment, Wiley served as the judge of Kaufman County court at law #1. Wiley is currently running unopposed.
Judge Dennis Jones (R - Kaufman, TX) was appointed to fill the seat vacated by Wiley after her appointment. Jones has filed to retain his seat as the new Kaufman County court at law judge #1. Kaufman County Court at Law Judge #2 David Lewis (R - Terrell, TX) has filed to retain his seat. According to state records, neither candidate is facing a challenger as of November 21, 2013.
Kaufman County Judge Bruce Wood has filed for his position as the county judge and currently does not have any challengers.
86th District Court Judge Howard Tygrett (R - Terrell, TX) is facing challenger Rebecca Calabria (R - Kaufman, TX). Tygrett and Calarbia both attended Forney's Community Parade on October 19, 2013.
Kaufman County Clerk Laura Hughes (R - Forney, TX) and Kaufman County District Clerk Rhonda Hughey (R - Kaufman, TX) have both filed for their respective positions and currently aren't facing challengers.
Precinct 2 County Commissioner Ray Clark (R - Forney, TX) has filed and will be facing two challengers. Clark's 2010 challenger Skeet Phillips attended Forney's Community Parade and carried Precinct 2 County Commissioner campaign signs but has not officially filed. Jon Foster (R - Forney, TX) has also filed for Precinct 2 County Commissioner.
Precinct 4 County Commissioner Tom Manning (R - Mabank, TX) has filed and will be up against challenger Jakie Allen (R - Crandall, TX).
Kaufman County Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Mary Bardin (R - Kaufman, TX) has filed for her position and will be facing challenger Michelle Cheney (R - Crandall, TX).
Kaufman County Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Johnny Adams (R - Mabank, TX) has filed for his position and will be facing challenger Grover Sanders (R - Kemp, TX).
Two other unopposed races include Kaufman County Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace which was filed for by incumbent Mike Smith (R - Terrell, TX) and the County Surveyor seat filed for by Greg Sjerven (R - Kaufman, TX).
