In a press release, Lay said, “As we head into 2014, we are just holding onto a downward trend for the fiscal year 2013-2014.” Property crime is leading the trend, falling nine percent over the same time last year.
“We faced some tough challenges regarding violent crime in the last year,” says Lay regarding an October killing spree which left five people dead. “However, we should be proud we are still pushing crime down in the City of Terrell."
Burglaries are down three percent and thefts are down 13 percent for the fiscal year. 9-1-1 calls about suspicious persons could be a leading factor resulting in the reduced property crime. “Keep the suspicious persons calls coming and we promise to do our best to catch those property offenders, as well as get them successfully prosecuted,” Lay said.
