Forney ISD swimmers finish season at regional championship competition
Forney, Texas – Forney ISD swimmers from Forney and North Forney High School finished off their season with regional competitions at the Frisco Natatorium in Frisco, Texas, on February 7 and 8, 2014.

Forney ISD had a great showing at the regional meet even though they did not have any swimmers qualify for the state championship meet. “We did a great job in concluding our season this year. Very proud of our swimmers from both FHS and NFHS,” said Forney ISD Head Swim Coach Brandon Tunnell.

20 of the 23 regionally qualified swimmers fielded in Friday's prelims advanced to the regional finals on Saturday, according to Tunnell. Several students also beat personal and school records at the competition.

Forney High School highlights include swimmer Colt Smith who finished 16th in the 100 Fly finals and 13th in the 200 Free finals. Brooke Putnam, named swimmer of the meet for Forney High School by Coach Tunnell, finished 16th in the 50 Free while setting a new personal record and 13th in the 100 Breaststroke.

The boys 400 Free Relay team finished 15th in finals and set a new school record. The relay team includes swimmers Colt Smith, Vincent Rodriguez, Danny Monroy, and Demoray King.

North Forney High School highlights include swimmer Harrison Wick who finished 14th in the 200 IM and 12th in the 100 Fly while setting new personal and school records. RJ Cervantez finished 15th in the 200 IM with a new personal record and 14th in the 100 Back with a new personal and school record.

Christi Mendez finished in 15th place in the 100 Fly while setting a new personal and school records. Victor Huff also set new personal and school records when he finished 14th in the 500 Free. Jacob Woods set a new personal record in route to a 16th place finish in the 100 Back.

The North Forney High School boys relay team set a new school record in the 400 Free Relay and finished 11th in finals. That team includes Wick, Matthew Jenkin, Huff, and Cervantez. The 200 Free Relay team, consisting of members Woods, Jenkin, Huff, and Kenny Clark, finished in 13th place. The 200 Medley Relay team finished in 15th place with members Henry Huynh, Woods, Wick, and Cervantez.

The North Forney High School girls 200 Medley relay team finished in 15th place with swimmers Kristen Barbour, Chelsea Edmonds, Amy Hawkins, and Mendez. The 200 Free Relay team finished in 16th place while setting a new school record. That team includes swimmers Hawkins, Barbour, Mendez, and Edmonds.

Coach Tunnell crowned the senior boys as the swimmers of the match for North Forney High School which includes Cervantez, Jenkins, Huff, Wick, and Woods.
