Lone Star CASA is an organization of court appointed volunteers with special training who help place abused and neglected children. The volunteers are appointed by a district judge to represent the best interest of abused and neglected children in court.
“Volunteer advocates independently investigate the child’s situation and make recommendations to Rockwall and Kaufman County District Court Judges as to what permanent placement would be best for that particular child,” according to Lone Star CASA's website.
According to Program Director and Trainer Vickie Nettleton, the sessions will give an overall view of the program, what's expected of the volunteers, and should last approximately 30 minutes with time for questions.
Volunteers will complete 30 hours of new volunteer training, review case records, research information, prepare court reports, make recommendations to the court, advocate in court, and complete 12 hours of training per year.
