FORNEY, Texas – The choir programs from Brown Middle School, Warren Middle School, Forney High School, and North Forney High School competed in three UIL concert and sight-reading contests over the past month and took home top honors.

The teams competed on March 25, April 8, and April 10, 2014, at Garland and Richardson ISD schools. “UIL contests are the equivalent to the State mandated testing procedures we hold our academic courses to,” said Interim Director of Fine Arts Mario Luna. “Our Forney ISD choral programs came home with superior and excellent ratings from the all six judges.”
The UIL concert and sight-reading contest is comprised of two components, according to Luna. The concert portion is made up of three UIL tunes from a prescribed music list. These students learn the music in their different choral classes for preparation for UIL. The sight-reading portion of the contest is a component where the students have to sight-read choral music for the first time in an allotted time.
Judges rate the groups with a first division being superior and a second division being excellent. The group's results are as follows:
