KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas – Kaufman County is eligible to receive a $299,979 county transportation infrastructure grant, according to a notification from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) presented at the Kaufman County Commissioners' Court meeting on Monday morning, April 14, 2014.

The county applied for the grant in March of 2014. This specific grant was created in the 83rd Legislature in Senate Bill 1747 and is being administered by TxDOT. The county will have to match 10 percent of the grant as an economically disadvantaged county.
The county will enter into an agreement with TxDOT in order to receive reimbursement payments from work executed under the agreements specifications. To qualify for reimbursement, the same standards currently being used on county roads will need to be met and the county will submit a project list to the state.
According to county officials, the work can begin next month after the project list is submitted and approved.
