With the list of projects submitted, county officials believe work can begin as early as this month on some of the projects once the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) approves the project list. The commissioners received notification of the grant eligibility at their April 14, 2014, meeting. The county will need to match 10 percent of the grant money used as an economically disadvantaged county.

In Kaufman County Precinct 1, commissioners approved work on County Road 283 from north of the concrete bridge to Farm-to-Market (FM) 2578. The state's estimated share on the project is $61,310 and the county's share is $15,328. Construction will include grinding, stabilizing, and seal coating the road.

In Kaufman County Precinct 2, commissioners approved $60,000 for spot repair on Old Nacogdoches Trail.

Commissioners approved two projects in Kaufman County Precinct 3 which were for County Roads 355 and 356. Base repair and chip seal work on County Road 355 will be from County Road 353 to FM 429, approximately 2.063 miles. The state's share on County Road 355 is approximately $16,200 with the county paying $1,800.

The second Precinct 3 project on County Road 356 will be for base repair and chip seal work from County Road 355 to its dead end, approximately 2.684 miles. The state's share on this project will be approximately $43,200 with the county paying $4,800.

In Kaufman County Precinct 4, the commissioners approved portland cement/chip seal work on County Road 4016 from FM 1391 to the oil field entrance. The state's share on this project is approximately $98,717.40 with the county paying $10,968.60.

The county will complete the work and receive reimbursements from TxDOT.
