FORNEY, Texas – The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will make emergency repairs overnight on a portion of Farm-to-Market (FM) 740 in Forney, which was already under construction, after heavy rainfall destroyed the road.

At approximately 9:45 p.m., emergency responders were dispatched to a single vehicle accident on FM 740 involving a truck that veered off the road and into the ditch. Emergency responders notified TxDOT of major road deterioration after arriving on scene.
At approximately 10:20 p.m., a TxDOT representative inspected FM 740 from Pinson Road to FM 460 and temporarily closed the roadway pending a further inspection. A project manager later inspected the roadway at approximately 11:30 p.m. before contacting a contractor to make the repairs.
According to a TxDOT representative, the road repairs should begin around 1 a.m., will run through the night as needed, and shouldn't require any major closures for morning rush hour traffic. A road grader will be used to repair the road base currently in place.
The damage to the road included significant amounts of large potholes and road deterioration in the area of By the Barnyard Gate daycare center.
Rainfall totals for Kaufman County include 2.9 inches of rain measured in west northwest Crandall but only .76 inches at the Terrell Municipal Airport. In Rockwall County, rain totals were higher with 5.32 inches measured in west southwest Heath, 5.29 inches in southwest Royse City, 4.20 inches in east Rowlett, and another measurement of 5.18 inches in Heath.
