At approximately 7:40 a.m., the student was attempting to cross the street on his bike when he was hit. “The student was thrown from the bike, but was alert and conscious,” states a Forney ISD release. The student was later transferred to Children’s Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, for evaluation after complaining of leg pains.
The student was not crossing the street at the crosswalk but instead walked in between cars traveling north on Pinson Road who were stopping at the four-way stop at the intersection of Pinson Road and Ridgecrest Road. The vehicle which struck the student was entering Pinson Road from the four-way stop, traveling south, and was unable to see the student through the cars, according to Kaufman County Precinct 2 Constable Jason Johnson.
A witness to the accident said the student appeared to be in a rush to get to school, presumably because the tardy bells at Criswell Elementary sound at 7:40 a.m.
The driver of the vehicle will not face any charges, according to officials.
