FORNEY, Texas – The two-time Grammy award winning polka band Brave Combo will open the Mick Spellman Amphitheater's free concert series “Simmerin' Summer Sounds” on Thursday night, May 29, 2014, at 6:30 p.m.

The Rub, a blues band from Heath, Texas, will open for Brave Combo, of Denton, Texas, at 6:30 p.m. Brave Combo will take the stage at approximately 8 p.m. Gates will open at 6 p.m.
“We are excited to offer a free music series during the week that all can enjoy,” said Forney Parks and Recreation Special Events Coordinator Alexa Tiesman. “We are hoping it will build for the future.”
Brave Combo has been nominated seven times and won two Grammy Awards. Their music has been featured in hit movies including Fools Rush In, David Byrne's True Stories, Clive Barker's Lord of Illusions, Late Bloomers, Envy, and The Personals. Brave Combo was also featured on The Simpsons playing at Oktoberfest in Springfield.
Brave Combo has also been featured in ABC's Ugly Betty and Fox Television's Bakersfield P.D. and have contributed original music for ESPN and The Big Ten Network.
The concession stands near the amphitheater will be open during the show. Picnics are permitted. Concert-goers may bring blankets, lawn chairs, and coolers 12” by 17” by 12” or smaller. Future series concerts include Clay Thrash on June 5, 2014, Hard Night's Day on June 12, 2014, Downtown Fever on June 19, 2014, and Killjoy on June 26, 2014. All concerts begin at 6:30 p.m.
