TERRELL, Texas – The Terrell Share Center received a $50,000 grant from the Walmart Foundation last week which the center says will be used to expand their building, purchase a new walk-in cooler and freezer, and to continue some of their various community programs.

The center provides food, clothing, school supplies, support education, and assistance programs for residents of Kaufman County. In 2013, the center fed and clothed approximately 2,000 families and graduated three individuals from GED programs.
The grant was made possible by the Walmart Foundation’s State Giving Program which awarded more than $1.3 billion in cash and in-kind contributions globally in 2013.
“We would like to thank the Walmart Foundation and the Walmart Corporation for the conscientious involvement not just in the Share Center, but in the community of Terrell and Kaufman County,” said Betty Glaeser with the Terrell Share Center.
“Walmart has proven with their dedication to our community for many years that they are not just a store, but a part of our community. Some of our senior clients even call the Share Center their little Walmart,” said Glaeser.
The Terrell Share Center is involved in community programs such as the city-wide Back to School Program, the Adult Education Program, and a summer program for children of mothers who use the center.
The center began in 1995 with a mere three volunteers. Today, the shelter has more than 100 volunteers. The centers ultimate goal is to help its clients become more self-sufficient.
“Walmart and the Walmart Foundation are very pleased to be supporting Share Center and are committed to helping those in need in the communities where we serve,” said Todd Libbra, Walmart Market Manager.
“Through this grant, we are hopeful that residents in Kaufman County will have access to the basic services they need like food and clothing. We are excited that our grant will also help the Share Center expand the services they offer to the residents of the community that are in need,” said Libbra.
