KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas – The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a double fatality head-on collision in northern Kaufman County on State Highway (SH) 34 approximately one mile north of County Road (CR) 328.

The accident occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, June 7, 2014, and the highway was closed in both directions for several hours while the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) investigated the accident.
Both vehicles caught on fire after the collision and both parties were pinned in their vehicles, according to Texas Department of Public Safety Public Information Officer Trooper Kyle Bradford. “We do know that both drivers are deceased at this time.” No other individuals were were involved in the accident.
21-year-old Ashtyn Clark of Crowley, Texas, was one of the victims pronounced deceased at the scene. DPS has not released the name of the second victim pending notification of family but did say the vehicle was registered out of Quinlan, Texas.
Investigators believe the accident occurred in the southbound lane of SH 34 and involved a 1997 Ford Explorer and a 2013 Ford Focus. The Ford Explorer rolled over as a result of the collision.
A DPS helicopter was also called in to take aerial photography of the accident scene.
The highway re-opened at 9 p.m. This story will be updated when more information becomes available.
