It's been just a little over a month since we wrote about neighbors' concerns the home at 2317 Sparrow Drive in its dilapidated state could attract crime and lower property values.
RELATED: Home sits vacant and deplorable two years after tornado
Earlier this month, the bank who owns the property took out building permits to repair the home, after additional pressure was applied by city code enforcement officials. Construction crews have since replaced the roof and damaged siding and gutted the interior of the home to prepare it for complete renovation and its eventual sale.
Four years before the tornado struck, the home was valued at $168,240, according to property tax records. In the two years it sat in its dilapidated state, the value dropped to $110,800 – a reduction of $57,440.
Two homes across the street from this house were completely destroyed in the tornado and demolished. A building permit was issued to 2312 Sparrow Drive last month and a new home is being built on the only thing that remained of the house – the slab.
Neighbors are now thankful the hard work accomplished after the tornado won't be overshadowed by the disrepair of the home at 2317 Sparrow Drive.
