Stage 3 water conservation measures will go into effect on June 1, 2013, in the City of Forney, Texas.
City officials announced the move to Stage 3 water restrictions after the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) Board of Directors voted to implement Stage 3 of the NTMWD Water Conservation and Drought Contingency and Water Emergency Response Plan.
The Stage 3 measures are in response to the two major reservoirs in the NTMWD being below the normal conservation levels by nearly eight feet. NTMWD is also still unable to pump water from Lake Texoma because of a zebra mussel infestation. “Construction continues on a pipeline from Lake Texoma to the NTMWD water treatment plant in Wylie, Texas, that will allow the district to resume pumping water from Texoma. However, the first phase of that project will not be completed until January 2014,” states a news release from the City of Forney.
According to the release, “Within the Stage 3 water management strategies, Forney must take action to reduce water consumption by 10%.” City Manager Brian Brooks said, “We urge our residents and businesses to fully comply with the Stage 3 water management strategies that will go into effect June 1st. Reducing our water use by 10% will help extend NTMWD’s water supplies during the summer months."
The Stage 3 water restrictions are expected to last throughout the summer unless there is higher than anticipated rainfall at Lake Lavon.
